Remains of the Feast by Assamblage @ Athens Jewelry Week 2019

"Remains of the feast" is an interactive installation signed by Assamblage Association where contemporary jewelry and new media become mirrors of a consumer and waste society. The topic of the project is the legend of King Midas, whose desire to turn everything he touches into gold dooms him. This is perhaps one of the most representative metaphors for contemporary society. Restoring Midas's mythical table, in a lush, golden setting, we discover what we leave behind a "feast" where we have exhausted all our resources.

In a time when fast-fashion has become the world's second polluting industry after the oil companies, when we spend more money on diets than it would be necessary to feed the entire starving population of the planet and the extinction rate of some species of plants and animals due to human actions exceeds historical records, the exhibition raises questions about responsibility and action.

“Remains of the feast” will be presented as part of Athens Jewelry Week 2019 between the 22-29th of May at the renowed jewelry museum Ilias Lalounis.

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK is a festival. It is an institution that creates the space where artists and audiences from the Contemporary Jewelry field can meet and exchange ideas, network and develop future collaborations. The works exhibited during AJW, are not only art pieces that express states of being, provoke discussions and comment on current sociological structures and tendencies, but are also a means to an end. The strong connections that are formed between individuals and groups coming from different cultures, support AJW and become the source for new and progressively, more impactful actions.

The organization that was born in 2016 has evolved. This 4th upcoming edition is now open to every active member of the Contemporary Jewelry scene.  We invite you to join us and contribute to our creative plans for new approaches, probabilities and proposals that will enhance the emerging artistic attempts in our field.
